Bust or figure from a photo

A portrait, a pet or a favourite toy as a 3D print. One front photo is enough, photos from more sides make the likeness closer. The shape is an artistic impression, not an exact copy.

How to take the photos for a good bust
  1. Step back 1.5 to 2 metres. A close-up distorts the face.
  2. Frame the person from the top of the head to the waist, with free space around both shoulders.
  3. Hold the phone at the height of the face, not from above or below.
  4. Keep the arms loose along the body, not on the hips or crossed.
  5. Shoot in front of a plain wall, with nothing in the background, in even light.
  6. Take the side and back photos from the same distance and height.

Thin spectacle frames and single strands of hair print badly. Hair tied back or combed close to the head comes out better.

Photos from more sides

More photos give a better result. Add a photo from the side and from the back, the model then matches the likeness and the hair better. It is optional.

Same distance and light as the front photo, turn 90° each time (left, back, right). Even one extra side helps. A photo we cannot use is left out and the model is made from the others.

Finish and base

The modern bust has a rounded chest on a turned foot with the name round its band. The antique bust stands on a tablet with the name and a socle with a wide foot. The sculptor's cut has no base, the bust stands on its own flat cut with the shoulders cut at a slant.

The name is raised on the front as part of the model, in capitals. Keep the text short, letters under 3 mm do not print legibly.

We delete the photo as soon as the model is created. Only people with the link see the model; for guests it is deleted after 30 days.

Free: 1 model a day without an account, 3 with one.

A 3D model of a bust or figure from your photo

The tool turns a photo into a 3D model: a bust with head and shoulders, or a figure of a whole body or an object. It suits a portrait, a pet or a favourite toy. One photo from the front is enough. Photos from the left, the back and the right make the likeness and the hair closer. The shape is an artistic impression, not an exact copy.

The model takes about a minute and opens in the calculator, where you see the print price and can change the size and the base. You order the print from us or download the model for your own printer for free. One model a day is free without an account, three with an account. We delete the photo as soon as the model is created.

How it works

  1. Choose bust or figure. A bust shows the head and shoulders, a figure the whole body or an object.
  2. Upload the photos. Choose or take a photo from the front: one person or object, plain background, sharp picture. Photos from the left, the back and the right are optional, but they improve the likeness.
  3. Set height and base. The print height can be set from 30 to 250 mm. You pick the style of the base and can have a name written on it.
  4. Create the model. Tick the consent to the processing of the photo and click "Create model". It takes about a minute; please stay on the page.
  5. Order the print or download. The finished model opens in the calculator. There you get the price, order the print or download the model.

Common questions

How should I take the photo for a good bust?

Step back 1.5 to 2 metres, hold the phone at the height of the face and frame the person from the top of the head to the waist. Shoot in front of a plain wall in even light, with the arms loose along the body.

Will the model be an exact copy of the person?

No, the shape is an artistic impression. Thin spectacle frames and single strands of hair print badly; hair tied back or combed close to the head comes out better.

How many models can I create for free?

One a day without an account and three a day with an account. With an account, a further generation beyond the limit can be paid from credit. The whole site also has a shared daily cap; once it is used up you have to wait until the next day.

What happens to my photo?

Our model-generation provider processes the photo and we delete it as soon as the model is created. Only people with the link see the model, and for visitors without an account it is deleted after 30 days.

Can I upload a photo of someone else?

Only with their consent. Before the model is created you confirm that the photo shows you or that you have the consent of the person in it. A photo we cannot use is refused.

Will the print be in colour?

No. The model carries only the shape and is printed in one colour. You choose it when ordering, from the colours loaded in the printers at that moment.
