Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to receive an offer?

Most printers respond within 24 hours of submitting a request. Direct requests to a specific printer are typically answered even faster.

Do I need my own 3D model (STL file)?

No. Just describe what you want printed – dimensions, purpose, material. Printers can design a model or recommend one from free sources. You can also pick a model from our catalog.

How does payment work?

Payment depends on the printer. Printers supporting online payment allow secure card payment via escrow – funds are released only after you confirm receipt. Otherwise, payment is arranged directly with the printer.

What if I'm not satisfied with the result?

For printers with online payment, you can open a dispute directly in the system. Funds are held in escrow until the dispute is resolved. For offline payments, we recommend resolving issues directly with the printer.

How do I know a printer is trustworthy?

Every printer undergoes manual verification before activation. On the printer's profile you can see ratings from other customers, completed order count, and portfolio samples.

Can I request printing in my city or region?

Yes. When submitting a request, select the desired region – the request will then only be visible to printers in that region. If location doesn't matter, leave the default "All Czech Republic" option.

Is the service free?

Submitting a request is completely free for customers. matplace charges a commission from the printer for each successfully mediated order. The customer does not pay this commission.

I want to offer printing – how do I register as a printer?

Go to "Printers" in the navigation and click "Register as Printer", or use the "Printer / Designer" section on the homepage. Registration is free. After completing your profile, you'll be approved by an administrator and can immediately respond to requests.

Can I upload my own 3D models to matplace?

Yes. Printers / Designers can upload 3D models to matplace and offer them for sale or print.

How do I price a model from an external catalog (Printables, Thingiverse…)?

In the order detail you will find a direct link to the model. Download it, open it in your slicer (PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Cura, OrcaSlicer or similar) and set the material, infill and quality as requested. After slicing, the slicer shows material consumption (grams) and print time (hours). Enter these into the built-in calculator in the order detail — it will suggest a price. You can adjust the price and send it directly to the customer as an offer.
