Popis
This spool holder organizes your cables neat and tidy. It protects against unwanted unraveling, is modular and can be used with the gridfinity eco system. Great to use for outdoor repairs too, since one can carry them without the spool unraveling in the tool bag. Fully printable, no hardware needed. The reel can easily be filled with the power tool adapter. If you want to modify the holder to your own needs, you are going to fint the .step for download too.
Printing:
Print all parts in the given orientation with 0.2mm layerhight.
Note: Print the Corner part and one Bolt as test print first! If you discover that the test came out nicely but the bolt just falls out or gets stuck, scale -only- the bolt by increments 1% bigger or smaler until it fits nicely. This is caused by XY-comepnsation/Slicer sometimes messing up the tolerances. Depending on the settings used, one might have to use up to 105% scale for the bolt. If you dont feel comfortable using the printed fasteners afterwards, you are going to find a version for M3 bolts as well. Works with M3x8 to M3x16 bolts
Assembly:
You can put everything together as you want/need. The gridfinity corners can be replaced with a regular corner, if you dont want to use it with the Gridfinity system.
Otherwise assemble all parts as seen in the pictures below. The Bolts are intended to be used with a flat head secrew driver. Assembly procedure is the same for M3 bolts
How to use:
Wind up the spools by hand, before putting them in the holder or use the hand drill tool. be carefull and dont go full speed there, since PLA might melt becaus of excessive friction heat.
Info:
Tested some cable i have at hand, so you can expect the spool to take roughly the following amount of wire:
Cable outer diameter [mm]/[AWG]
Smal Spool capacity [m]/[ft]
Spool capacity [m]/[ft]
0.9mm / 19AWG
50m / 164ft
100m / 328ft
1.0mm / 18AWG
45m / 147ft
90m / 295ft
1.5mm / 15AWG
25m / 82ft
50m / 164ft
I used this table to convert outer diameter from mm to AWG
Looking for some bigger reels? Maybe have a try with this bigger one for Gridfinity or a even bigger one , taking empty filament spools.
